HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
In a word: Hilarious
Plot: Earth has be decimated by a horrible virus, one that turns humans into flesh craving zombies. Columbus, a college student whose loner/gamer life has given him incite on how to survive in this new zombified world, is on his way home (guess where he's from). He meets up with Tallahassee, a redneck zombie killer, who agrees to give him a ride. Tallahassee is after two things - zombies and a twinkie. Zombies prove to be the easier of the two to find. Along their travels they meet up with two sisters - Wichita and LIttle Rock - who con the unsuspecting duo out fo their vehicle and weapons. The foursome meet up later and agree to ride together to Los Angeles, where Wichita is hoping to take her little sister to Pacific Playland, an amusement park rumored to be zombie-free.
Thoughts: Comedy horror at it's best. Take the R-rating serious, there is a lot of blood and gore here, but it's all in the name of fun. These zombies are not the slow-moving, George Romero kind, they're quick little fuckers. The "rules" that Columbus has adopted to survive are funny and true (which reminds me, I need to lose weight before the Zombie Apocolypse), and I liked how they would insert themselves into the scenery. The romance doesn't feel tacked on, at all, but seemed like a natural chain of events. You know the girls are stupid to think the park would remain zombie-free, but you can't help but accept Wichita's wish to give her little sister one last good time. Out of all the acting, Woody Harrelson is the best. He is obviously having a really fun time blowing away zombie's right and left. The story of his lost "puppy" was actually quite moving. Every time I thought the story was getting a bit too "serious", they would throw in a joke to lighten things back up. Nicely done, well shot and surprisingly well acted for a zombie flick!
Spoilers: I'm glad they all lived to fight another zombie-filled day! Well, all except Bill Murray. I wonder, does he really have all those self-portraits in his home?
