The Devil's Panties by Jennie Breeden
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
In a word: Geekarific!
Plot: The Devil's Panties is a semi-autobiographical webcomic by Jennie Breeden. Volumes 1, 2 and 3 are compilations of previously published comic books . Follow Jen through the world of college (where she majored in sequential art - i.e. comic books), the start of her webcomic, Cons, geeks, men in kilts, drunken pirates, caffiene and it's various effects on webcomic artists, strange fans, family and her boyfriend's jealous cat. Jennie's work is frequently hilarious, often amazing and all too familar to those of us who hang around and/or work at sci-fi conventions. Don't worry! It's not satanic porn!
Thoughts: Yes, is a comic compilation. So what? It's still a book. Besides, Jennie's work is far too good to be ignored. This basically amounts to a "diary", since many of Jennie's real-life adventures (and various struggles) show up in the strip. Characters include Jennie's family, friends, boyfriend Will and Will's jealous (and exceptionally adorable) cat, Pixel. Most of the action takes place at Cons, where Jennie hawks her comics - and attends far too many parties. While the books mostly follow a time-line, there will be randomly inserted "one off" comic-strips. Most frequent of these are the "famous last words" and the "what NOT to say in the bedroom". Also, Jesus and the Devil will make frequent apperances to comment on the moral's of today's society.
The art is sometimes a bit rough, as is Jen's spelling (something she is more than aware of, no need to let her know about it). That does not deter from the overall enjoyment of the comic. It's fun, it's flirty, it occasionally flips men's kilt with a leafblower - it's an awesome find!
